At the request ot the Russian  Republic of Karbardino-Balkaria, MND Engineering carried out a safety study on the top of the Baksan Valley, in the Caucus mountain range, over which the ski  resorts of Cheget and Azau are spread.

Dominated by the Elbrouz (5642 m), these well-known off-slope and freeride ski areas present a strong potential for tourism, but their development and progress (ski resort, accommodation facilities) is hindered by the presence of intense avalanche activity with far-reaching episodes threatening roads and buildings.

After available bibliography analysis, MND Engineering led an initial onsite campaign, fisrt on skis and then on board the MI8 helicopter of the Ministry of Extraordinary Affairs.

Received by the leader of the armoured regiment (responsible for preventive avalanche release using 105 mm canon shots) and then by the representatives of the Republi to better understand local context, MND Engineering's report gathers all analysis, avalanche modeling results and protection proposals.

This preliminary study includes also financial evaluation to allows Russian partners to build the best development for this valley.
